Rich history and prestige
Authentic Art Deco architecture
Exclusive domain with diverse potential

The domain
Villa Zwart Goud is located on a spacious plot of approximately 82 acres, surrounded by a private park garden and a private forest plot. This Art Deco-style icon was built in 1924 as the prestigious director's residence for the Kempen Coal Mines. At the time, the carefully fenced domain offered an unprecedented oasis of peace and privacy within the impressive mining industry, a character that has survived to this day. Although the domain currently serves as a high-quality event location and boutique restaurant, the structure is ideal for a return to its original residential destination. In addition, it offers the unique opportunity to combine living and working, or to continue the current commercial operation (for which a hotel license has even been issued) in your own way.
A rich history
The history of this villa is inextricably linked to the glory days of coal mining. The house was built at a time when the Heusden-Zolder mine grew into the largest and most profitable in the Kempen basin, with ten thousand employees. The most prominent resident was undoubtedly director and manager Lycops, the architect of the merger between the Zolder and Houthalen mines. The villa was the nerve center from which the management watched the mine operation; the characteristic 45-degree angle in the architecture was specifically designed to provide the director with an unobstructed view of the mine entrance from his private office.
The villa
The residence shows a rare architectural grandeur, with the recent restoration restoring its original glory down to the smallest details. The unique design of the facades harmoniously interacts with the rich interior, which exudes the unadulterated atmosphere of yesteryear. In doing so, precious elements such as the authentic paneling, the herringbone parquet and the impressive staircase have been honored with extreme care. A special aesthetic detail are the peacock scenes and the colors in deep blue and green: a subtle tribute to Director Lycops's passion for peacocks.
The layout
The house is spread over four levels that offer a wealth of space. The ground floor has a stately entrance hall that provides access to spacious reception rooms and the former private office in the characteristic corner. The floors currently house various multipurpose spaces that are ideal for furnishing six or more spacious bedrooms and several bathrooms. In the basement, there is an attractive salon, a cigar lounge and an authentic wine cellar with brick niches.
Outbuilding and outdoor area
The outdoor area of Villa Zwart Goud was designed as an extension of its historic standing. The fully enclosed park garden merges seamlessly into its own private forest, guaranteeing an absolute degree of discretion and security. In addition to the various sun terraces and the charming petanque court, the domain houses a fully-fledged caretaker's home. This detached annexe, complete with its own kitchen, living space, bedroom and bathroom, is the perfect entity for a guest cottage, live-in staff, or home office. The stately, long driveway leads to ample parking spaces and underlines the prominent position of this unique heritage with each arrival.
